Needlebook

I think it is easy but need a little time to do a needlebook.

My cartonnage tecnic is not professional, I just wanna show you the steps.
I apologize for my mistakes, I hope you understand what I wrote.

Materials:

cardboard paper (thicker to the outside covers, thinner to inside covers)
cotton ot patchwork textiles (I used 2 colors)
fluent adhesive
document clips
wadding or felt substance
pins
mother of pearl threadholder rings

Cut the cardboard paper to that size you have choosen. Cut the wadding too, and put it onto the cardboard paper. Put your stitching on them and its backside draw the linen together with tacking. Now you have this:

Cover the cardboard cards with textile and smear the adhesive in a very thin layer.
Altogether 4 pieces of cardboard cut a sheet out in same size, the pieces marked for the inner side may be made of thinner cardboard. I made an inside pocket too.
Now you have 4 pieces. To make sure the the adhesive sets well use document clips.

It's time to glue the front and back of the needlebook together.
The exterior and inner part of its front after gluing documentum I confirm it its views with clips, the adhesive sets certainly so. I also do the same steps with the rear sheets. Of course something needs let it bind the two covers: I cut a stripe from the textile and I make it driving up between the covers sticking. A book will be from it so.

Needlebook inside. You can take into a piece of felt substance for your needles, or sew mother of pearl rings to hold thread. Pocket is useful holding scissors.

Avete anche voi un cestino strabordante di pezzettini (anche piccolissimi) di stoffa o lino? Avanzi dei vostri precedenti lavori che avete custodito perché vi sentite risparmiose?
Ebbene, è il momento di usarli.

I'm pretty sure you have a lot of little pieces of fabrics, rests of past works. It's now time to use them!

MATERIALE (Foto oo)
Rimanenze di stoffe.
Stoffa per le parti più grandi.
Imbottitura a foglio.
Nastro d'organza.
Ferro da stiro.
Forbici.
Spilli.
Macchina da cucire.

MATERIALS (Pic 00)
Fabric.
Plain wadding.
Organza ribbon.
Iron.
Scissors.
Pins.
Sewing machine.

Foto 1 / Pic 1:
Cominciate a tagliare dei quadrati di 6 cm. per lato di stoffe o lino più o meno in armonia con i colori (scusate ma questa fase della lezione non l’ho fotografata…) e uniteli prima a tre a tre formando delle strisce e poi unite le strisce una sull’altra. Margine per la cucitura 0,5 cm per cui vi resta pulito un quadrato di stoffa di 5cm di lato circa. Be', alla fine il risultato è questo (parte in alto della foto).
Stirate.

Cut your fabric pieces into regular squares, 6 cm. for side, the seam allowance of 0,5 cm. is included. You'll need 27 squares.
Sew it into stripes of three and then sew the stripes one under the other. You'll have an unique piece of 3x9 squares (upper piece in the photo) or, if you prefer, three blocks of nine patches.
Iron it.

Perché nine patch? Perché ho cucito 3 blocchi di 9 quadrati di stoffa (nine patch)… e ora ? Che ne facciamo? Tagliate un pezzetto di stoffa della stessa dimensione del nine patch e applicatevi sopra una tasca e due strisce di lino (parte centrale della foto) e poi prendete l’imbottitura termoadesiva (parte in basso della foto) o una qualsiasi imbottitura purché non sia troppo spessa.

Cut an unique piece of fabric of the same size of the nine patch piece just sewn (it will be about 15x45 cm.).
Sew a folder and two pieces of a different fabric (center part of the photo).
Now cut an unique piece of plain wadding, a little bigger of 15x45 cm.

Foto 2 / Pic 2:
Dritto contro dritto e sotto l’imbottitura,
e via alla macchina da cucire.

Place the two fabric pieces right to right and the wadding under them.
Let's sew with the sewing machine, now!


Foto 3 / Pic 3:
Arrotondate un lato corto e inserite tra i due dritti due nastrini di organza uno sopra l’altro. I nastri dovranno essere lunghi, ciascuno, poco meno della lunghezza totale del nine patch roll.

Place two pieces of the organza ribbon between the right fabrics of one smaller side. Their lenght has to be a little less the whole lenght of the nine patch roll, so about 40 cm.
Sew the side rounded. You can fix the pieces together with pins.

Ora cucite il perimetro, lasciando un'apertura per risvoltare il tutto.
Richiudete l'apertura con piccoli punti e stiratelo.

Now sew the perimeter, leaving a small opening to turn it in-out.
Then close the opening manually with little invisible points and iron it.

Il risultato è: lato esterno...

... e lato interno. Voilà, il gioco è fatto. Facile, no?

Il nine patch roll può essere usato come piccola trousse da borsetta che arrotolata occupa veramente poco spazio, però secondo me manca qualcosa e allora ieri l’ho fatta diventare così aggiungendo un pezzetto di feltro in basso per tenere in ordine gli aghi (mio marito se li ritrova nel divano e non è proprio felice…) e un cuscinetto per le forbici che serve anche da puntaspilli, anche se arrotolare le forbici non è facile.
Nella prossima puntata impararemo a fare il cuscinetto per le forbici.

You can use the nine patch roll as a stitching trousse, very useful and portable in a bag once rolled up.
I've also added a small piece of felt to hold the needles.
